What are the differences between ABB standard motors and ABB marine motors?
Date:2020-07-27 16:16:23

A customer sent several models of ABB marine motors to Chuangjuman Electromechanical. After reviewing them, we requested that they provide the nameplate serial number. Because there may be some non-standard requirements and special requirements. We can access the accessories provided through the ABB system.
Regarding the customer's technical response later, this is non-standard and the delivery time may be slightly longer.
He asked me if it was possible to replace it with a standard motor.
I said it depends on your specific requirements.
What is the difference between standard motors and marine motors? How much do you use ABB on ships?
ABB marine motors are specifically designed for marine equipment and are applicable to major marine equipment manufacturing companies worldwide. The motor housing material is made of high-strength cast iron, which is surface treated for various harsh marine environments, and can prevent moisture, mold, and salt spray.
Generally used in the shipbuilding industry, it meets international standards such as ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, GL, KR, NK, IEC, and the requirements of relevant classification societies.

The outlet of the marine motor adopts a specially designed high-density joint, with a grounding plate inside the junction box and on the surface of the machine base, completely ensuring the safety of the motor. The winding adopts new material electromagnetic wire.
Standard motors are generally used on land and may look the same in appearance, but there may be some design deviations.
ABB's ship application technology is at the forefront of the icebreaker market. Among them, ABB process automation technology has become the core technology of advanced icebreakers.

This project aims to help ships save space, reduce weight, and significantly reduce noise and vibration. The main benefits of ABB marine motors also include enabling diesel engines to operate at different speeds, which is crucial during ice breaking operations. This flexibility can also reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
The outer shell of the icebreaker's bow is made of steel plates at least 5 centimeters thick, supported by dense steel components inside, and the waterline of the hull is reinforced with impact resistant alloy steel.
These vessels will become powerful liquefied natural gas carriers capable of transporting natural gas from the Yamal LNG project in Russia throughout the year. The project is located in the Arctic region and is covered by ice all year round.

Looking forward to more ABB motors being applied in the shipbuilding industry.
