Precautions for starting high-voltage electric motors

(1) After connecting the power supply, if the motor does not turn, the power should be cut off immediately, and there should be no hesitation or waiting. It is also forbidden to check the motor for faults while it is live, otherwise it will burn out the motor and cause danger.

(2) When starting, attention should be paid to observing the working conditions of the motor, transmission device, and load machinery, as well as the indications of the ammeter and voltmeter on the circuit. If there are any abnormal phenomena, the power should be immediately cut off for inspection. After the fault is eliminated, the load can be started.

(3) When starting the motor with a manual compensator or manual star delta starter, special attention should be paid to the operating sequence. Be sure to push the handle to the starting position first, and then pull it back to the running position after the motor speed stabilizes, to prevent equipment and personal accidents caused by misoperation.

(4) Electric motors on the same line should not be started simultaneously. Generally, they should be started one by one from large to small to avoid too many motors starting at the same time and excessive current on the line. Excessive voltage drop can cause difficulty in starting the motor, leading to line faults or tripping of switchgear.

(5) When starting, if the direction of rotation of the motor is reversed, the power should be immediately cut off, and any two of the three-phase power lines should be swapped to change the direction of rotation of the motor.
